The Slimming Pill Industry
The slimming pill market is huge – whther a slimming pill works or not does not seem to be the main priority nowadays – it is all about profit margin.
A slimming pill can be unleashed onto the market in a blaze of marketing glory and make millions for the producers in a short space of time before eventually word will spread that the product may not be as effective as the advertising lead us to believe -or even aid weight loss at all.
Once the product has been “found out” it is usually rebranded and rebadged and the cycle will start all over again.
FDA Approved Slimming Pills
There are exceptions within the over the counter market and commercial slimming world. The one product that springs to mind is Alli. Alli was released at the start of 2007 – it is a lower strength version of the prescription only Xenical

Alli had its fair share of criticism (even by us) but it it is generally accepted that Alli is an effecient, effective slimming pill that can bought over the counter without prescription. Alli is the only commercially available slimming pill that is approved by the FDA.
The biggest drawback with Alli is the possible side effect it can cause – although it may not be considered a serious side effect (more an inconvenience) the side effect is real. Read about the side effects of Alli here.
There other notable exceptions that be freely purchased – two of which are Hoodia Gordonii and Proactol.
Hoodia Gordonii is a generic term and not a individual product – there are several dozens if not hundreds of Hoodia slimming pills available.

Proactol is a fat binder that works in a similar way to prescription only Xenical – it is one of only a small fraction of slimming pill manufactuers that have the approval of the MHRA (Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Authority) and has been granted a Type 1 Medical Device classification.
